Search for a service in Dubai on your phone and the first thing you see is a map with three businesses. That block, the local pack, takes a large share of the clicks and calls. If you serve customers in specific parts of the city, appearing in it is often worth more than any other ranking.
This guide covers what decides who appears there and what you can do about it.
How Google ranks local results
Google states that local results are based mainly on three things:
- Relevance: how well your business profile matches what the person searched for.
- Distance: how far your business is from the searcher or the place named in the search.
- Prominence: how well known your business is, based on links, articles, directories and reviews.
You cannot change distance. Everything in local SEO is about improving relevance and prominence.
1. Complete your Google Business Profile
Your profile is the single most important local asset. Claim and verify it, then fill in every field:
- Choose the most specific primary category, plus accurate secondary categories.
- Use your real business name. Adding keywords to the name breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension.
- Set correct hours, including Ramadan hours and public holidays.
- List your services and products with short descriptions.
- Upload real photos of your premises, team and work.
2. Keep your name, address and phone consistent
Dubai addresses are often written several ways: building name, street, community, Makani number. Decide on one format and use it everywhere: your website, your profile and every directory listing. Consistent details help search engines trust that all those mentions refer to the same business.
3. Earn and answer reviews
Reviews influence both rankings and whether people choose you. Ask every satisfied customer, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to all reviews, including negative ones. Never buy reviews or offer incentives for them. Both are against Google's policies and fake reviews are regularly removed.
4. Build pages for the areas you serve
If you serve Dubai Marina, JLT and Business Bay, each can have its own landing page, provided the page is useful. Include what you offer there, how to reach you, parking or delivery details and local examples of your work. Pages that only swap the area name are thin content and rarely rank.
5. Add local structured data
LocalBusiness schema markup tells search engines your address, coordinates, hours and contact details in a format they can read without guessing. It should match your Google Business Profile exactly.
6. Get mentioned locally
Links and mentions from UAE websites build prominence: local news, industry associations, chambers of commerce, suppliers and community sites. A few relevant local links usually help more than many generic ones.
How long does it take?
Profile improvements can show within weeks for less competitive searches. Categories such as real estate, clinics and restaurants in central districts take sustained work over several months.
